Covered With Love: A Community Quilt
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic devastated the world and life as we knew it. Even as Singapore struggled and adapted to a new normal, its frontline healthcare workers worked tirelessly to keep the nation safe.
In appreciation of these efforts, Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, together with partner Swiss technology firm Bernina Singapore, led a community project to convey thanks and appreciation to Singapore’s frontline healthcare workers. The result is a colourful quilt comprising heartfelt messages of love from the community at large.
Some 500 messages and designs from secondary schools, the Swiss embassy, students, staff and alumni from Temasek Polytechnic were received. Eventually some 360 designs were selected and embroidered using Bernina Singapore’s state-of-the-art embroidery machines. These were stitched together at the School of Design to form the larger, final quilt which measure more than 4.5m x 2m.
Titled Covered with Love, this community quilt will be presented to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
This first joint community project also marks the official launch of the new TP-Bernina Creative Studio, housed in TP’s School of Design. The Centre will offer courses and workshops for students, adult learners and the community at large in the area of creative design enabled by Bernina’s state-of-the-art sewing machines.
