Hydrogen fuel cell technology has gained widespread acceptance overseas as it is a green and sustainable alternative to traditional energy systems that are based on carbon. The common hydrogen storage system consists of bulky tanks, which store either compressed gaseous or liquid hydrogen at high pressures. Unfortunately, these are not suitable to be used in applications that have weight and volume constraints, such as in portable power and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
TP has successfully developed an innovative solid fuel-fibre matrix and a unique hydrogen generation apparatus that can generate hydrogen with good controllability and high portability. Patents have been filed for the invention in Singapore and internationally.
The technology has been licensed to EnergyNova Pte Ltd, a local start-up which designs and manufactures compact, light-weight, and on-demand hydrogen generators. The company hopes to deploy TP’s technology in a wide range of consumer applications, including UAVs, commonly known as drones.

Drones are becoming more popular for both recreational and commercial purposes. However, due to the limitations of current lithium batteries, manufacturers are looking for alternative power solutions to keep drones in the air longer and reduce the inconvenience of recharging or changing batteries shortly after a flight. EnergyNova hopes the integration of TP’s hydrogen generation system with the company’s core technology can allow drones to achieve a flight time of at least two hours.
