Course Overview

In today's rapidly evolving digital economy, businesses require agile responses to market changes and customer needs, and so building upon the Skills Demand for the Future Economy (SDFE) Report 2023, there are strong indications in the Digital Economy for tech-lite job roles such as business development executives, data analysts and project/ product managers that require skills that enable businesses to oversee product management from concept to market launch, employing project management methodologies and agile practices to adapt to changing conditions.

 

The aim of the Specialist Diploma in Digital Product Management & Innovation (SDDPMI) is to equip students with the knowledge and skills of product management and innovation through the understanding of the design thinking process and product management frameworks.

 

This will ensure digital product or service design and quality are carefully considered, innovatively explored and are aligned to industry best practices. Ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in the implementation of digital products and services will also be covered. These skills will enhance the working professionals with relevant skills in their job roles.

What You'll Learn

This course consists of 2 Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs).

 

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Digital Product Management & Innovation, students are required to complete 4 modules at SMU and 2 modules at TP. The Specialist Diploma in Digital Product Management & Innovation will be jointly awarded by TP and SMU to participants who have successfully completed and obtained a pass grade for the 6 modules.

 

Upon graduating from the course, graduates should be able to:

 

  • Utilise business environment analysis, market research, and insights to create and implement effective business development plans.
  • Apply design thinking and user experience design principles to create and refine products based on customer behaviour analysis and market needs.
  • Apply negotiation techniques and manage stakeholder relationships to secure favourable deals and align interests.
  • Perform thorough market research and utilise problem-solving skills to identify opportunities, address challenges, and support strategic decisions.
  • Oversee product management from concept to market launch, employing project management methodologies and agile practices to adapt to changing conditions.

Subject
Design Thinking – Opportunity Recognition & Ideation Management

Be equipped with essential tools for design thinking, allowing you to structure ideas effectively and focus on user-centered innovation. You’ll learn to conceptualize business solutions by applying research-driven insights, creating prototypes, and conducting feasibility assessments, ensuring that your strategies are both innovative and practical for real-world implementation.

Design Thinking – Innovation Management Tool

This subject focuses on exploring design thinking as a powerful tool for enhancing products, services, or experiences, while also providing step-by-step insights into the design thinking process to facilitate creative problem-solving. Participants will apply the design thinking framework to develop practical and innovative solutions aimed at overcoming various business challenges.

Business Model & Technology Innovation

You will understand the concept of a business model and utilise the business model canvas, alongside an introduction to strategy and strategic frameworks. Additionally, participants will explore the impact of technology on business models and learn how to effectively use the value proposition canvas.

Effectively Pitch & Get Buy-In for Innovation

This subject focuses on effectively pitching and gaining buy-in for innovation by examining how innovative companies foster and nurture an innovation mindset within their organisations. Participants will learn strategies to build momentum for the success of innovation projects, as well as techniques to persuade stakeholders and overcome resistance to change, ensuring support and active engagement in driving these projects forward.

Subject
Product Management Strategy & Delivery

This subject focuses on crafting and executing successful digital product management strategies. Students will learn to formulate effective Go-To-Market strategies and refine Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) for long-term success, while covering product management methodologies tailored for digital products and services, while ensuring the ethical and governed use of AI. Key areas include market research, defining product strategy, maintaining product roadmaps, enhancing user experience design, collaborating with agile development teams, and monitoring product performance. Emphasis is placed on cultivating collaborative relationships with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth product implementation from initial planning to ongoing support.

Applied Project

The subject culminates what has been imparted from the course and allows students to develop innovative digital products with a focus on product management in the digital. It encompasses digital solution prototyping using the design thinking framework, effective management of digital product projects, and persuasive pitching and presentation strategies.

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessment would be based on a combination of coursework components such as written assignments, written tests, projects and presentations.

 

 

Certifications/Accreditations

 

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Digital Product Management & Innovation, participants are required to complete a total of 2 Post-Diploma Certificate. A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each PDC.
