Course Overview
Fire alarms are often taken for granted but are in fact a critical safety feature in a building. The purpose of a fire alarm system is to detect a fire at a sufficiently early stage so that people who are at risk can evacuate, or the fire can be extinguished to prevent extensive property damage. This course will introduce you to the types of fire alarm systems in use today, their components and functions, and how to manage a fire alarm activation as well as a false alarm. There will also be a hands-on session on the operation of the fire alarm panels and various fire detectors and you will receive a hardcopy of the latest “SS 645:2019 Code of Practice for Installation and Servicing of Electrical Fire Alarm Systems” (formerly known as CP 10).
Objectives
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the components of fire alarm system and their functions
- Understand the differences between addressable and non-addressable fire alarm systems
- Describe the fire alarm system’s maintenance regime
- Describe what to do during a fire alarm activation
- Acquire knowledge on fire alarm activation and false alarm management
