Food Fish Health & Disease Management
Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC) in association with Singapore Agro-Food Enterprises Federation (SAFEF) organised Food Fish Health & Disease Management course for farmers over a period of four months. The 17 farmers/participants were from Farm 52, Grand Pacific Fishery Pte Ltd, Heng Heng Fish Farm, Millenia Farm Pte Ltd, Singapore Seafood Farm Pte Ltd/Yong Bao Live Seafood Supplier and The Fish Farmer Pte Ltd.
The following topics were covered for each of the 4 sessions:
- Biology & Anatomy of Fish
- Fish Health Management
- Fish Diseases & Management
- Fish Care & Husbandry
The lecture cum demo training started on 28 August with these farmers at AIC Conference Room and the session ended on 27 November culminating in certificate presentation as course closure.
Certificate for Singapore Standard 689:2022 Specification for Clean & Green Urban Farms – Aquaculture
13 enthusiastic participants attended the inaugural run of Certificate for Singapore Standard 689:2022 Specification for Clean & Green Urban Farms – Aquaculture from 4 to 6 October 2023. The objective of the course is to train aquaculture farm personnel and others interested in approaches that would help ensure food safety and quality as well as responsible aquaculture farm operations and practices, resource and farm waste management.
The 3-day programme is intended for farm licensees, aquaculture health managers, farm supervisors and farm employees or persons interested in aquaculture. From the 13 participants, 5 were from 2 farms, 2 consultants and 6 from Singapore Food Agency (SFA). Participants were issued with a Certificate of Accomplishment upon meeting 75% of the required course attendance and having passed the assessments.
The trainers for this programme are: Dr Fanny Yasumaru, Dr Saravanan Padmanabhan, Dr Huang Zhi (from School of Applied Science) and Dr Diana Chan.
ESSEC Business School - Educational Programme
Aquaculture AIC has been conducting a special programme for ESSEC Business School MBA participants specialising in innovation and sustainability with a very keen focus on business deals from Asia’s perspective. The programme is entitled Innovation and Sustainability in Aquaculture Industry. The programme begins with a lecture on aquaculture innovation and sustainability followed by tour of the facilities. The sessions are often very engaging and interactive. The participants are often very eager to learn about AIC and ask many interesting questions.

Certificate in Singapore Standards in Good Aquaculture Practice
Aquaculture Innovation Centre is the Training Provider for Certificate in SS in Good Aquaculture Practice. There are more training opportunities in the coming months in 2023.
Masterclass in Cutting-edge Feed Technology for 21st Century Aquaculture [17 to 21 April 2023]
A 5-day masterclass in cutting-edge feed technology for 21st century aquaculture was conducted from 17 to 21 April at Kasetsart University, Bangkok. The participants ranged from 1 rep from a tilapia farm in Mozambique, 3 feed mill reps from India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, 4 AIC members and some graduate students from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The 5-day programme covered techniques for formulating, manufacturing and delivering aquaculture feeds and how these can be used to improve fish growth, health and welfare.
This special masterclass was organised by Asian Institute of Technology, Kasetsart University, Aquaculture Innovation Centre and World Aquaculture Society – Asian Pacific Chapter.

AIC’s First Overseas Training
Training Course for Auditors on Good Aquaculture Practice (21 & 22 September 2022)
Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC) co-organised with Singapore Food Agency (SFA) under the banner of Singapore-Brunei Joint Working Group for Agri-Food Collaboration, a customised Training Course for Auditors on Good Aquaculture Practice for Brunei participants. It was an online programme conducted over 2 days primarily by Dr Meliana Riwanto, AIC Technical Consultant and Ms Victoria Chen with introductory session conducted by AIC Team. The participants generally expressed satisfaction with the programme but preferred it to be done onsite and face-to-face. That’s food for thought for the subsequent runs.
Responsible Care & Use of Fish (RCUF) Training
AIC conducted a series of Responsible Care & Use of Fish (RCUF) training for Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and their partners. The 1.5 days’ training was done online (0.5 day) and onsite (1 day). The second full day was a hands-on session at the lab which enabled the participants to practise the essential skills in responsible fish care and use for scientific purposes.

Up-Skill in Entrepreneurship in Aquaculture
Aquaculture Innovation Centre has been engaged in manpower development as part of the contribution to the ecosystem. The team had been extensively engaged in the SGUnited Skills Programme specifically in Up-Skill in Entrepreneurship in Aquaculture.
AIC Formal Training Programme
On 31 August 2020, AIC started the first run of SGUnited Skills Programme: Up-skill in Entrepreneurship in Aquaculture with 18 participants. The programme has both technical and non-technical modules. It is a 6-month full-time certificate programme entitled: Professional Certificate in Aquaculture Entrepreneurship

Singapore Standard for Good Aquaculture Practice (SS GAqP) Course (24 – 26 August)
This course was run by Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC) with support from Singapore Food Agency (SFA) with 11 participants. The photos provide a story of the skills-training they underwent.
AIC Indonesia Study Tour and Field Training
A team of 12 participants from AIC, SFA, a private company and Blue Aqua headed to Lampung, Indonesia from 3 to 5 November 2019. The team learnt all about shrimp farming, the nutrition, water quality and big challenges faced.
The team of AIC comprised the Research Executives and AIC Admin team. The pictures speak volumes of the knowledge and skills acquired.
