Course Overview

The Diploma in Security is developed to equip the officer with managerial skills and competencies to perform the job at managerial level and manage the security operations, agency or department. An individual has to complete 7 modules to attain the Diploma in Security.

A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded to the individual when he successfully completed each module and assessed to be competent.

 

Exemptions from Training Requirements for Chief Security Officer PWM Grade

1. Graduates from the following diplomas may be exempted from the mandatory and elective Chief Security Officer training modules in their application for the Security Officer Licence:
 

  • Diploma In Security & Fire Safety Studies; 
  • Diploma In Security & Fire Safety Management. 

For exemptions in PWM years-in-service criteria, graduates may write in to SPF_Licensing@spf.gov.sg and submit evidence of relevant experience in the security industry/ uniformed service. 

 

2. Graduates from the following diplomas may be exempted from the elective Chief Security Officer training modules in their application for the Security Officer Licence:
 

  • Diploma In Police & Security Studies; 
  • Diploma In Police Studies & Security Management; 
  • Diploma In Management & Police Studies. 

In order to qualify for a full exemption to the Chief Security Officer PWM grade, one must pass the mandatory Chief Security Officer training module which is the ‘Manage Security Agency Within Legal Framework’.

For exemptions in PWM years-in-service criteria, graduates may write in to SPF_Licensing@spf.gov.sg and submit evidence of relevant experience in the security industry/ uniformed service.

Entry Requirements

 

  1. Relevant working experience in the security related industry at a supervisory, executive or management level; or
  2. Successfully completed Security WSQ Advanced Certificate in Security

 

These requirements are not applicable to current students attending the Diploma in Security.

Covers the skills and knowledge to help security managers to interpret the statutory requirements to operate a security agency, in the implementation of an agency's rights and obligations as an employer of security personnel, in the understanding the rights and obligations of an agency to their clients, to understand the security agency's legal powers, rights and obligations at work.

4 SEC-SRM-4001-1.1 Quality Assurance and Audit (Manage Security Operations)

Assessment: POLWEL

Equips security personnel at managerial level with the knowledge and skills to prepare for security audit, conduct security audit, confirm security requirements, co-ordinate and monitor security operations and review and report status of security operations.

Assessment : SII
Equips security personnel at managerial level with the knowledge and skills to assign work, monitor performance, review performance and follow-up on review.

6 SEC-ICM-4003-1.1 Incident Response (Manage Security Emergencies)

Assessment : POLWEL
Equips security personnel at managerial level with the knowledge and skills in working with emergency response team in managing different security emergency situations that may involve business-as-usual types of accidents and situations where injuries, fatalities and authorities are involved, and executing emergency response plans and providing assistance to emergency response team in handling post-emergency activities.

7 SEC-SOP-4008-1.1 Manpower Planning (Manage Recruitment and Selection of Security Personnel)

Assessment : SII
Equips security personnel at managerial level with the knowledge and skill to recruit and select manpower according to the needs, objectives and policies of the agency.

Covers the skills and knowledge to effectively manage and control large crowds and traffic flow and the entry and exit of vehicles. The ability to escalate potential threats and accidents to the appropriate authorities is also covered.

2 SEC-SOP-1012-1.1 Security Screening Management (Conduct Security Screening of Person and Bag)

This is a mandatory unit for all security staff whose duty includes conducting security screening of person and bag with the use of both hand-held and walk-through metal detectors. This unit provides the skills and knowledge required in the preparation prior to the conduct of security screening; conduct and perform security screening of a person with the walk-through and handheld metal detectors, conduct pat-down search of a person and manual bag search, before allowing access into premises.

3 SEC-ICM-2001-1.1 Deterrence (Perform Security Duties at Protected Areas and Protected Places)

Assessment : POLWEL
Covers the abilities and knowledge to apply appropriate actions to deter undesired outcomes when on duty at protected areas and places.

4 SEC-PDV-3003-1.1 Performance Management (Lead and Manage a Team of Security Officers)

Assessment : SII
Covers the skills and knowledge required to plan performance of the security team, influence the team’s performance, assess and review the security team’s performance.

5 SEC-ICM-3003-1.1 Incident Response (Perform Monitoring and Reporting Duties at Central Command Centre)

Assessment : POLWEL
This unit equips security personnel with the knowledge and skills to take over duty, monitor status of field personnel, manage situations and hand over duty. This includes exercising the skills and knowledge in management of multi-sites, acting as a resource co-ordinator at the central command centre for all agency sites.

  1. You are required to upload all your e-SOAs in the PLRD system to reflect the security modules you have passed (deemed competent).

  2. How do I apply for the WSQ Full Qualification?
    We will consider your application/request on a case-by-case basis if you have completed at least half of the modules required for a Full Qualification (FQ) with TP-SII after Dec 2022 for the first six months from 1 Jan 2023 to 30 Jun 2023 (if not, please approach POLWEL).

NOTE:
 

  1. Assessment may be conducted on a different day after the last day of training.
  2. Trainees will be informed of their assessment date(s) on the 1st day of training.
  3. For modules assessed by POLWEL. A written test (with project submission) and final interview will be conducted on the 3rd and 4th week, respectively, after the last day of training. The affected modules are  “Conduct Security Survey”, “Manage Security Operations”, “Assess and Manage Security Risk Control Measures”, “Manage Security Business” and “Manage Security Emergencies”
  4. Security Industry Institute reserves the right to alter the course, modify the scale of fees, amend any other information or cancel classes with low enrolment.
  5. Currently, all our training programmes are conducted on a full-day basis from 9.00am to 6.00pm, unless otherwise advised.

Re-assessment Fee

 

NOTE: If you need to retake the assessment, you must do so within a 60-day period. If not, TP reserves the right to bill you the full course fee for the course run.

Payment for SII courses can be made as follows:

1 SkillsFuture Credit  Upon confirmation of the course, an email with the payment link will be sent to you latest about 1 week before the course commencement. Please refer to the instructions on the online payment page to make the payment. Please do not make payment manually via the My SkillsFuture Credit Portal before receiving the confirmation email with the payment link from TP.
2 eNETS/Credit Card/PayNow Upon confirmation of the course, an email with the payment link will be sent to you latest about 1 week before the course commencement. Please refer to the instructions on the online payment page to make payment via eNETS, Credit Card or PayNow.

 

For WSQ Short Courses

  1. It is a requirement for all trainees to attain at least 75% training attendance and pass the assessment for EACH module to enjoy SSG’s subsidy. Trainees who do not meet the requirement will have to pay the full unsubsidised course fees.
  2. Temasek Polytechnic reserves the right to alter the course, modify the scale of fee, amend any other information or cancel course with low enrolment.
